2023 Homecoming Week Expectations
As a community, let's make this a great Homecoming Week and follow the expectations set for everyone.
All DCC Homecoming traditions (excluding sports) are initiated, organized, and implemented by our student counsel. As a school spirit enhancing competition between grade levels, Thor Wars gives students opportunities to get involved and connected at DCC. Students use their ThunderTime class to prepare dozens of ways to earn points in a variety of events throughout Homecoming week and at the Thor Wars Assembly.
Dress-up Spirit Days:
Stay within the expectations of our dress code (page 33 in the Student Handbook ) for school appropriateness.

Saturday, September 30 - Homecoming Football Game
Show your school spirit with our spirit theme this year: Blackout.
Expectations for Spectators:
- Cheer for your team - do not heckle or boo the other team; unsportsmanlike behavior will result in points reduced from your grade for Thor Wars.
- Show our guests respect, including the officials
- Stand on the first row of seats, not the floor.
- Student yell leaders, designated with Thor’s Spirit Hammers, are on the floor when leading the student cheering section.
Monday, October 2
Powder Puff Football is 7pm at the D20 Stadium and open to everyone, but participants are high school students. Powder Puff teams are student led, and the school is not responsible for managing playing time.
Spectators
Please cheer respectfully. Booing, heckling, and other forms of poor sportsmanship will result in lost points.
Cheerleaders - disqualification results in your group receiving no points.
All performances must be appropriate in verbal content, dance moves, and dress. Teams will avoid the following undesirable behaviors that will result in disqualification at the discretion of school administration: sexual innuendo, unnecessarily challenging rival teams, inappropriate sound track or lyrics, or inappropriate dress including showing midriffs, short shorts (including spanks), or potentially offensive cross-dressing.
Cheerleader scores have 4 categories:
- Spirit/Energy/Enthusiasm
- Creativity/Originality
- Organization/Unity/Synchronization
- Positivity/Appropriateness
Wednesday, October 4 - Parade and Improv
Drivers
- All drivers must be adults - no student drivers.
- Drivers must drive slowly and be aware of spectators, walkers, and float passengers.
- Drivers will not have loud music inside of the vehicle - you must be able to hear if you're asked to stop.
Students
- Students must stay seated on the side or middle of the vehicle - no sitting on the tailgate of the truck or tongue of the trailer.
- Students will stay on the float at all times during the parade.
- All students must safely fit on their float - if not, they must follow behind the float.
- All students will model respectful behavior and language throughout the parade.
Candy - no peanuts, no chocolate
- All candy will be passed from walking parade participants to student spectators.
Parade Spectators - Parents are welcome, but parking is limited
- Stay back from floats and vehicles.
- Show respect for each student and group in the parade.
- Share candy with others.
Cheap Date Improv - 7pm, $5 tickets
Due to the nature of improv, this event is not recommended for a younger audience.
Thursday, October 5 - Volleyball starting at 4 pm, Bonfire and Car Smash to follow
Spectators
- Cheer for your team - do not heckle or boo the other team; unsportsmanlike behavior will result in points reduced from your grade for Thor Wars.
- Show our guests respect, including the officials
Bonfire and Car Smash - high school students
- Be safe and make wise decisions around fires and sledgehammers!
- Avoid horseplay and PDA
- Students must have a signed waiver to have an opportunity to swing a sledge hammer at the car.
Bonfire and Car Smash - parents
The bonfire and car smash will last no longer than an hour and a half. We will announce to students to call for their rides 15 minutes before we put the fires out. We appreciate your help getting students picked up!
Friday, October 6 - Thor Wars
Respect each other, including other teams. The gym will be loud - students who are sensitive to this may bring ear plugs. We will provide a quiet room for students to watch via live stream.
Saturday, October 7 - Homecoming Dance 7:30-10:30 pm Main Gym, High School only
Submit guest forms to Miss Berry or Mx. Dee in the office by Thursday, October 5. Late forms are not accepted. Guests without a form will be turned away at the door.
Guests
- One guest per student.
- Guests must show ID to enter.
- Guests must be with student to enter.
Students
- Students must show ID to enter.
- If you leave the dance, your wrist band will be removed and you will not be allowed to re-enter.
- Immediately report any concerns to a trusted adult.
- There will be no sexual touch - unwanted touch is sexual harassment and will be handled accordingly with administration and CSPD.
- Show respect for one another during the dance.
- Less than full cooperation with staff will result in the student having to leave the dance with no refund.
Parents
- Drive groups of students to and from the dance.
- Please pick up students at 10:30 pm.
- If students get together before or after the dance, an adult must supervise them and ensure that everyone stays safe and sober.
Dress code
- Clothing must appropriately cover underwear, buttocks, and chest.
- Inappropriate clothing for a school function will result in the student being asked to change into school provided shirts and pants, or call a parent for a change of clothes. This will be enforced at the discretion of the school administration team.
- Students who are having difficulty following dress or behavior expectations will be asked to leave the dance, and may receive a school consequence.
- If a student has questions about their outfit, feel free to consult with Mrs. Carpenter or Mr. King before the event.
Dance Etiquette
- Excessive grinding or displays of significant affection will receive a warning the first time, asked to sit out for 15 minutes the second time, and asked to leave after the third.
- Moshing or pushing while dancing is not permitted. The first time this occurs, the music turns off for 5 minutes, the second time for 10 min, and the third instance will end the dance early with no refunds.
Substances - all school events are substance free
- All athletes and student leaders have agreed to be substance free and abide by community laws inside and outside school. Violations of these agreements have clear athletics/activities consequences.
- Anyone suspected to be in possession of or under the influence of a non-permitted substance will be subjected to non-invasive safety searches of the person and the vehicle they rode in, evaluation of sobriety, breathalyzer, and/or sent for a drug test. These processes is conducted by a school administrator with the support of a security officer. Depending on the circumstances, violations of the schools drug/alcohol policy will result in a suspension from school that could range from 5 days to a recommendation for expulsion and possible ticketing. Failure to comply with school requests for safety search, breathalyzer, etc. will result in significant suspension as well.
